Developing of Educational Software Tool for Teaching Medical Communication

Abstract

|
To understand the process of medical interviewing with patients, skill-based education should be stressed in teaching medical communication. The purpose of this study is to develop a educational aid tool which can make various educational materials (audio-vidual, textual, and presentation materials) organized very easily and used effectively in medical communication education. In this study we designed GUI by using SWT (Standard Widget Kit) for the sake of convenient use of the educational software tool. This software can be used in all the systems supporting Java of PC or UNIX systems, and prompt use of GUI can be possible. The educational software tool can make educational contents presented according to the process of teaching (introduction, main course, and conclusion). In the introduction stage, objectives of learning, plan of lesson, and educational materials to facilitate students’ participation are presented. In the main course core contents of learning according to the subjects, audio-vidual clips to facilitate teaching, and educational
materials for the students to participate in experiences are presented. In the conclusion part, summary of the lesson, brief quiz to help the students memorize the core knowledge are presented. The developed educational software tool in this study can be used as a medium for the sake of effective progress of lesson in medical communication teaching. And it can facilitate collaboration of teachers for developing educational materials, and also make possible the development of faculties who will take charge of medical communication teaching.
